These are the projects our international judging panel has picked as some of the most stylish apartments in Singapore.

LBDA 2018 shortlist UPSTAIRS_ THE SEAFRONT APARTMENT

1) Project name: The Seafront Apartment
Project type: 3-bedroom apartment
Firm: UPSTAIRS_

The initial brief was for a ‘resort-themed’ home-away-from-home for the client and his family, who are based in Indonesia. Eschewing the typical ‘Balinese’ and ‘rusticated’ resort aesthetics, this apartment displays a contemporary reinterpretation of the local vernacular through a layered choreography of textures, material form and graphic patterns, set within a seamlessly detailed architectural space.

LBDA 2018 shortlist METRE Architects - Hillion Residences

2) Project name: Hillion Residences
Project type: Studio apartment
Firm: METRE Architects

The client desired a home that could cover the requirements of Live, Work and Play. To create a variety of functions in this petite 43sqm apartment, a singular multi-functional space was designed with the most distinct feature being a single sculptural landscape that forms the bed, sofa, work and dining space. Volumes beneath this sculptural form also offer up loads of practical storage.

LBDA 2018 shortlist PRODUCE - Sing Avenue

3) Project name: Sing Avenue
Project type: 4-bedroom walk-up apartment
Firm: PRODUCE

Designed for a young family, the individual private spaces in this apartment are planned out like a house within a house, where the bedrooms and study spaces are clustered behind birch plywood volumes that double up as the distributed storage for the house. This frees up more windows for natural daylight to pass through. A system of wooden CNC-cut operable geared louvers also helps regulate airflow.

LBDA 2018 shortlist three-d conceptwerke - The Interlace

4) Project name: The Interlace
Project type: 3-room condominium unit
Firm: three-d conceptwerke

The clients lived in Australia before arriving in Singapore, and this project was an attempt to translate the culture and vibrancy of their city of origin into their new apartment. With their love for entertaining and cooking, attention has been given to the design of the kitchen, which is kept enclosed for worry-free cooking. The half-height wall with glass panels allow the views through while characterful elements like geometric patterned flooring and warm wooden cabinetry lend depth to the space. Lush green walls add further vibrancy to the home.

LBDA 2018 shortlist The Monocot Studio - Riviera Residences

5) Project name: Riviera Residences
Project type: Penthouse apartment
Firm: The Monocot Studio

Home to a couple with a toddler, this apartment is a child-friendly space that facilitates play and interaction, and is also designed to accommodate the owners’ love for cooking and entertaining. Modular cabinet walls line the length of the walkway and can be reconfigured into different storage arrangements. The communal table serves as a food prep area and comes with a secondary counter that functions as a dining table. Chalkboard paint on the cabinet doors encourage the child to doodle.

LBDA 2018 shortlist ASOLIDPLAN - Apertures

6) Project name: Apertures
Project type: Tiong Bahru apartment
Firm: ASOLIDPLAN

This gentleman’s apartment has been designed for entertaining, and the display of art and objects. To balance the need for privacy and daylight, the windows of this ground floor apartment feature custom pivot screens whose patterns are inspired by iron grilles commonly seen in the estate in the olden days. Each window becomes an aperture, where transparency is fine-tuned via both the angle of the pivot screens and the alignment of its two layers.

LBDA 2018 shortlist LAANK - The Living Hotel

7) Project name: The Living Hotel
Project type: 3-bedroom condominium unit
Firm: LAANK

This apartment combines the opulence and comfort one would find in a luxury hotel with the convenience and ease of technology. Luxury materials such as marble and quartz are used, while lots of technology has been incorporated into the space, such as in-built speakers in the ceiling and an integrated lighting system. Features such as tinted glass walls in the study, living and dining rooms, and kitchen demarcate the home while providing a common, continuous space for greater family interaction.
