Is your submission suitable for this category?

  • Only HDB projects (2- to 5-room flat, BTO, 3Gen, DBSS, Maisonette) and design firms in Singapore are eligible.
  • All projects must be completed between 1 January 2017 and 15 April 2018.

Outside of those requirements, the qualities and characteristics under consideration for Outstanding HDB Flat are as follows:

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with regard to spatial planning, programming, materiality and so on.
  • Conceptually and aesthetically, the design will be distinctive and imaginative, and the elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The design will respond to its locality and the needs of its inhabitants.
  • It will represent a new or forward-looking method of design – in process and/or final outcome.
  • This project will exemplify Singapore’s finest in home interior design.

This award goes to the private apartment that’s tailored, with individualistic spaces that fulfil the needs and wants of its residents in a most creative and thoughtful manner.

This award honours the landed home that responds beautifully to its context and addresses the functional and aspirational requirements of its inhabitants.

We celebrate the social aspect of home – a space primed for entertaining, whether in a casual or formal setting. Such areas in the home can include the living room, dining room, kitchen, entertainment room, outdoor space, as well or other areas where gatherings occur.

Best Space for Retreat

Home above all is your personal space and shelter – a place to seek comfort, rest and rejuvenate. We award the project that encapsulates the ethos of retreating into a private sanctuary. Examples of retreat spaces in the home include the living room, bedroom, bathroom, balcony, as well as other areas where one goes to for rest and relaxation.

The Interior Design Firm of the Year is one that excels, inspires others, and is making strong strides and a positive contribution to Singapore’s home interior design scene.

Category Criteria

All interior design firms in Singapore that are at least 5 years old (min. established date: April 2013) are eligible. Outside of that requirement, the qualities and characteristics under consideration for Interior Design Firm of the Year include: a well-established and demonstrated progressive attitude toward imaginative interior design practice with regard to skills and services, expertise and team of talent, their use of materiality, technology, big-picture thinking and so on.

The awarded interior design firm has demonstrated a consistent, bold and fearless approach to their practice of interior design, inspiring others with their skill, insight and foresight. The awardee is a firm that dares to disrupt the status quo and undertake new directions; its projects are distinctive and display excellence in both the process and outcome. With all of that, this firm sets a new benchmark in Singapore’s growing home interior design scene.

Key considerations: The interior design firm’s mission, expertise and staff talent, design approach from ideation/concept to execution, hallmark projects, innovation, big-picture thinking and overall originality.

Home of the Year

Home of the Year is a special award honouring the most outstanding project entered into the LBDA. This work breaks away from the traditional approach and boldly pushes the possibilities of design to set new benchmarks in Singapore’s home interior design scene.
