We honour Singapore’s most inspiring HDB dwelling – one that’s considered and thoughtful, and sensitively designed for living well.

Category Criteria

IS YOUR SUBMISSION SUITABLE FOR THIS CATEGORY?

  • This category is open to HDB projects (2- to 5-room flat, BTO, 3Gen, DBSS, Maisonette) and design firms in Singapore.
  • All projects must have been completed between 1 January 2018 and 15 May 2019, and must be 100% finished works at the time of submission.

Outside of those requirements, the qualities and characteristics under consideration for Outstanding HDB Flat are as follows:

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with regard to spatial planning, programming, materiality and so on.
  • Conceptually and aesthetically, the design will be distinctive and imaginative, and the elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The design will respond to its locality and the needs of its inhabitants.
  • It will represent a new or forward-looking method of design – in process and/or final outcome.
  • This project will exemplify Singapore’s finest in home interior design.

Key considerations: brief, ideation process, concept, spatial acumen, skills and expertise, decoration, lighting, project challenges, experimentation and imagination, innovation and overall originality of design outcome.

Outstanding HDB Flat – People’s Choice

The Shortlist in the Outstanding HDB Flat category will go up for public voting for the special title of Outstanding HDB Flat – People’s Choice.

Outstanding Private Apartment

This award goes to the private apartment that’s tailored, with individualistic spaces that fulfil the needs and wants of its residents in a most creative and thoughtful manner.

Category Criteria

  • This category is open to apartment projects (Condominium, Apartment, Walk-up) and design firms in Singapore.
  • All projects must have been completed between 1 January 2018 and 15 May 2019, and must be 100% finished works at the time of submission.

Outside of those requirements, the qualities and characteristics under consideration for Outstanding Private Apartment are as follows:

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with regard to spatial planning, programming, materiality and so on.
  • Conceptually and aesthetically, the design will be distinctive and imaginative, and the elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The design will respond to its locality and the needs of its inhabitants.

This award honours the landed home that responds beautifully to its context and addresses the functional and aspirational requirements of its inhabitants.

  • This category is open to landed projects (Terrace, Semi-detached, Detached, Bungalow, Shophouse, Townhouse, Cluster House) and design firms in Singapore.

Outside of those requirements, the qualities and characteristics under consideration for Outstanding Landed Home are as follows:

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with regard to spatial planning, programming, materiality and so on.

  • All projects must have been completed between 1 January 2018 and 15 May 2019, and must be 100% finished works at the time of submission.

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with regard to spatial planning, programming, materiality and so on.
  • Conceptually and aesthetically, the design will be distinctive and imaginative, and the elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The design will respond to its locality, as well as the needs of its inhabitants, with particular regard to the requirements of entertaining.

Home above all is your personal space and shelter – a place to seek comfort, rest and rejuvenate. We award the project that encapsulates the ethos of retreating into a private sanctuary.

Small spaces call for greater innovation. We recognise small flats and apartments (800sqft and below) that make brilliant use of space, turning tight living quarters into comfortable and highly liveable homes.

  • A demonstrated advancement in interior design practice with particular regard to spatial planning.
  • Conceptually and aesthetically, the design will be a beautiful demonstration of small space living; it will push the boundaries of design possibility while responding to its locality and the needs of its inhabitants.
  • The elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The winning entry will represent a new or forward-looking method of design – in process and/or final outcome.
  • It will exemplify Singapore’s finest in home interior design.

  • The elements of lighting, fixtures, fittings, carpentry, hard and soft furnishings, etc will be considered.
  • The winning entry will represent a new or forward-looking method of design – in process and/or final outcome.
  • It will exemplify Singapore’s finest in home interior design.

Interior Design Firm of the Year

The Interior Design Firm of the Year is one that has displayed an exemplary performance at LBDA 2019, and inspires others. This awardee dares to disrupt the status quo and undertake new directions; its projects are distinctive and display excellence in both the process and outcome.

The qualities and characteristics under consideration for the award include: a demonstrated progressive attitude toward imaginative interior design practice with regard to skills and services, expertise and team of talent, big-picture thinking and so on. Overall, this firm is making strong strides and a positive contribution to Singapore’s home interior design scene.

Home of the Year

Home of the Year is a special award honouring the most outstanding project entered into the LBDA. This work breaks away from the traditional approach and boldly pushes the possibilities of design to set new benchmarks in Singapore’s home interior design scene.
